Black Friday 2026 is on 27 November.
Black Friday is the Friday after US Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November. In 2026 that makes Thursday 26 November Thanksgiving and Friday 27 November Black Friday. Cyber Monday follows on Monday 30 November.
Sale-week dates for 2026
| Day | Date | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday | 26 Nov | Thanksgiving (US). Some shops open early offers. |
| Friday | 27 Nov | Black Friday |
| Saturday | 28 Nov | Small Business Saturday |
| Monday | 30 Nov | Cyber Monday |
| Tuesday | 1 Dec | Giving Tuesday (charity giving day, not a sale) |
Many stores start their "Black Friday" offers days or even weeks early and keep some running after Cyber Monday. The dates above are the calendar days; each shop sets its own sale dates, so check the shop's own page.
How to work out the date in any year
Find the fourth Thursday of November. That is Thanksgiving. Add one day for Black Friday and four days for Cyber Monday. In 2027, for example, Thanksgiving is 25 November, so Black Friday is 26 November.
Prep checklist, week by week
- Now to mid-October: decide what you actually need. Write a short list of things you already planned to buy. Be specific: item, model, and the most you would pay.
- Late October: record today's prices. Take a dated screenshot of each item's price. This is your reference for the real saving later.
- Early November: set the budget. Pick one total for the whole sale period, including gifts. The Black Friday budget tool checks if your list fits. Use the true cost calculator for anything bought on a payment plan, because delivery, tax and interest add up.
- Two weeks before: tidy your inbox and phone. Unsubscribe from promotional emails and mute shop notifications. Most impulse buys start with a message at the wrong moment.
- The week before: check return policies for the shops on your list, using the return policy checklist. Holiday return windows can differ from normal ones.
- Sale week: stick to the list. Anything not on it gets a pause. The Should I Buy This? tool and the 48-hour rule are built for this moment.
Two questions to ask before every sale purchase
- Would I buy this at full price? If not, a discount does not turn it into a need.
- Will it still be a good idea on Monday? If you are unsure, check your regret risk or freeze it for 48 hours.
Black Friday dates, year by year
| Year | Thanksgiving | Black Friday | Cyber Monday |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 28 Nov | 29 Nov | 2 Dec |
| 2025 | 27 Nov | 28 Nov | 1 Dec |
| 2026 | 26 Nov | 27 Nov | 30 Nov |
| 2027 | 25 Nov | 26 Nov | 29 Nov |
| 2028 | 23 Nov | 24 Nov | 27 Nov |
The dates come from the calendar rule above, not from any shop. The date moves between 23 and 29 November, so the number of shopping days before Christmas changes from year to year.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday: what is the difference?
Traditionally, Black Friday was the in-store day and Cyber Monday was the online day. Today the line is blurred. Most big shops run offers online and in store on both days, and many stretch their sales across the whole week or longer. So the useful question is not "which day is better", it is "what is the price of the exact item I want, and what did it cost before the sale?"
- If you want one specific item: track its price from now. You will know within a few days whether the sale price is better than the normal one.
- If you are buying gifts: make the list first. Decide a limit per person before you see any offer.
- If you are only browsing: do not browse. Browsing without a plan is how an impulse buy starts.
Timing mistakes that cost money
- Buying on the first day out of fear of missing out. Offers often repeat on later days, and stock-low messages are made to create hurry.
- Waiting until the last minute for gifts. Delivery can be slower in busy weeks, so allow extra time for items that must arrive by a date.
- Forgetting the return deadline. A holiday purchase can have a return window that ends in January or later. Write the date down when you buy.
- Treating every "early access" email as a deal. Early access is a sales tool. Check the price like any other.
A simple plan for sale week
- On Thanksgiving Thursday, look at your list and your budget. Do not shop yet.
- On Black Friday, buy only list items whose price you have checked.
- Over the weekend, freeze anything extra that tempted you.
- On Cyber Monday, decide on the frozen items. If you still want one and it is still a good price, buy it with a clear head.
