What this policy covers
This policy explains how CartFreeze, the free 48-hour purchase-pause tool at cartfreeze.com, handles information. It covers the CartFreeze website and tool only. It does not cover other websites you visit, including shops you may be thinking of buying from.
Information you enter into CartFreeze
When you use the tool, you may enter the following. It is used only to run the tool on your device:
- the name and price of an item you want to buy, and its currency;
- optionally, your monthly income. It is used only to estimate what a price means in hours of work, and it is not saved;
- optional everyday cost figures (for example groceries or a monthly bill), used to show what your kept money could cover;
- your own answer after a 48-hour freeze: whether you bought the item or not.
CartFreeze does not ask for bank account numbers, card numbers, passwords or any payment details. Please do not enter them.
How CartFreeze stores information
CartFreeze saves your freezes, completed freezes (with their dates), goal and cost figures in your own browser, using your browser's local storage on the device you are using. CartFreeze does not intentionally send, sell or collect these entries. They are stored on your device, not on a CartFreeze server. The same applies to the lists you create in the Return Deadline Tracker and the Holiday Gift Budget Planner (items, dates, names, limits and amounts you type): they are kept only in your browser on your device and are not sent to CartFreeze.
Because the data lives only on your device, there is no cloud backup and no sync between devices. If you clear your browser data for this site, or use a different browser or device, your CartFreeze history will not be there, and we cannot recover it for you. Anyone who can use the same browser profile on your device may be able to see it.
No account needed
CartFreeze does not have login, sign-up, passwords or user accounts.
Savings shown in CartFreeze
Savings, totals, history, levels and badges are calculated from the choices you record in the tool. A saving is counted only after the 48-hour freeze is complete and you tell CartFreeze that you did not buy the item. These figures are self-reported and are not independently verified. They do not mean money was moved to a bank or savings account, and CartFreeze does not guarantee any financial result. CartFreeze is a self-reflection tool, not financial, legal or investment advice.
Cookies
CartFreeze itself does not set cookies. Local storage, described above, is a different browser feature and is used only to remember your own entries.
Google Analytics, described below, may set cookies (for example, names starting with "_ga") to tell visits apart and count them. Where the law requires it, these are used only if you choose "Accept" in the choice shown on the site. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, and you can also delete cookies in your browser settings. CartFreeze does not use advertising cookies.
Analytics and tracking
CartFreeze uses Google Analytics (provided by Google) to count visits and understand how the website is used, for example the number of visits, pages viewed, approximate country, device and browser type, and where a visit came from. We use this only to understand whether the website is being used and to improve it. We have turned off Google signals and advertising features, and we do not use this data to show ads.
CartFreeze does not send Google the items, prices, savings or goals you enter in the tool; those stay on your device. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics cookies are used only if you accept them. You can decline or change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. CartFreeze does not currently use advertising services.
Server logs and technical information
Our web hosting provider may automatically process standard technical information, such as IP addresses, page requests, dates and times, and browser or device details, in server logs for security, reliability and operation of the service. CartFreeze does not use this information to track or profile visitors.
Third-party services
- Web hosting: the website is delivered by our hosting provider, which may keep the standard logs described above.
- Analytics: Google Analytics, as described above. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Sharing: if you tap "Share my win", the message (which includes the item name and amount you chose) is passed to your device's share menu or copied to your clipboard. You decide where it goes. CartFreeze does not receive it.
How information is used
Your entries are used on your device to run the freeze timer, show totals and monthly history, and display levels, badges and goal progress. If you email us, we use what you send to reply to you.
Data sharing
CartFreeze does not sell information. Because your tool entries stay on your device, we do not have them to share. If you email us, we do not sell or publish your message or email address.
Data security
This website is served over HTTPS. Keeping your entries on your own device reduces what is stored elsewhere, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. Your device and browser settings protect your local data.
Data retention and deletion
Your entries stay in your browser until you remove them. To delete them, clear the site data or browsing data for cartfreeze.com in your browser settings. Server logs are kept by our hosting provider according to its own practices. If you email us, we keep the message for as long as needed to respond; you can ask us to delete it by writing to the address below.
Children's privacy
CartFreeze does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Entries made in the tool stay on the device being used. Parents and guardians who help a child use CartFreeze can clear the site data on that device at any time.
Changes to this policy
If CartFreeze changes how it handles information, for example by adding analytics, advertising or accounts, this page will be updated to describe the change, and the date at the top will change.
